Bruce
A tortured soul, Bruce believes he is somehow responsible for his father’s death. He is waiting for his chance at revenge, but he doesn’t know where to target his rage. So he turns to the violence of the streets as an outlet. He doesn’t care about his own personal safety, which makes him even more dangerous. He is a loner. He has no true friends, save for Alfred. Bruce was only a teenager when his father was murdered. Too young to do anything about it, but old enough to understand what happened. His father was a proud man with many skills, and he expected a lot from Bruce. When he died, Bruce lost all hope of becoming the man his father wanted him to be. His normally good school habits steadily worsened. Violent behavior got him suspended and eventually expelled from school. He bounced from foster home to foster home without regard for any of the families. He quickly found himself living on the streets. He survived by stealing, intimidation, and his quick wit.

Bruce was found by Alfred in this state. Alfred helped Bruce out of a jam with the local authorities in exchange for work to be done at the local rectory. Bruce accepted this as yet another twist of fate meant to destroy his life. He dove into the work blindly and found it somewhat rewarding. Alfred let him stay in the belfry of the rectory. Bruce started training again but couldn’t find a local mentor to train him formally. They all said he was too volatile. Still searching for an outlet for violence he found a local gang, the Killing Hand. They put him through some tests and found his fighting skills and lack of emotion perfect for what they needed. Bruce finds the gang appealing only as an outlet for violence. His lingering conscience is the only thing that keeps him in check.

When he is enraged, however, he lashes out with everything he can muster. Bruce trains constantly and physically pushes his limits; though, he believes he can never be good enough to overcome his lingering guilt about his father’s death. This combination makes Bruce a very dangerous person. Deep down, he wants to be forgiven, and stays close to Alfred for this reason. He wants to love God, but hates Him for what happened with his life. Alfred is on the verge of breaking through to Bruce, when events inspired by the gang put his reasoning skills to the test. Bruce’s long standing desperation for vengeance proves too much for the lessons that Alfred taught. He begins a downward spiral into violence, murder and betrayal. Bruce then abandons any hope of redemption and chooses a new life. Now aware of his own inherent evil, Bruce moves on to find those qualities in other people, and seeks to destroy them.

Alfred
A learned priest with a very practical outlook on life, he is not righteous, pious or zealous. He doles out advice in a straightforward, rational manner, and emphasizes his point with a proper biblical reference. His deference to the lay class has kept him from the upper echelons of church hierarchy. He would rather not deal with the politics, anyway. His forgiving nature has led him to trouble with the law in the past. He has been known to harbor an occasional fugitive whom he felt society would discard. He took in Bruce as an orphan without registering him with social services. When public notices and newspapers proclaimed the boy’s absence and offered rewards for his return, Alfred turned a blind eye. Sometimes he doubts this decision, but he did what he felt was right for Bruce.

Not knowing how to deal with this teenager and his dark secret, Alfred kept his distance, allowing the boy plenty of freedom. This freedom earned him respect, but also may have led Bruce, now a man, into danger. He’s come to care for Bruce in a fatherly manner and wants to protect him, but his lack of control earlier in life has put Bruce way out of reach now.

Julian
Before he was fired for personality and ethical conflict from his corporate position, Julian, a former financier, managed to steal enough cash to live on without a steady income for several years. During this time, he turned to the streets, and reconnected with the underground element of his youth - dissonance. A shrewd judge of potential in other people, Julian used his money and his considerable charisma to position himself in a ruling position amongst the gang underworld. With a flair for the dramatic, he used his influence to negate rivals and started a close-knit gang of criminals — The Killing Hand.

He formed this group to carry out (you can’t exact tactics against citizens) strong-arm tactics against leading citizens and politicians, to blackmail the powers-that-be to and run the city as he sees fit. His love for drama leads him to engage in initiation rituals and ceremonies. He devised plans to mastermind an army of societal terrorists, and use symbols, hand signs, and uniforms in solidifying this force of evil to work as a cohesive combat unit.

He sees the potential Jack has for sheer destruction, but knows that Jack can get out of control. He sets to Robin the task of reporting on Jack’s activities. Julian is manipulative, intelligent, and plans ahead. He tries to forget his chaotic past by forcing a strict order to the present. Unbeknownst to him, his past, will likely spiral his plans out of control.

Jack
A snot-nosed punk who grew into an ambitious lunatic, Jack uses his wits and cunning to survive a tough street life. It is a life, however, which rewards him for his cruelty and his physical prowess. What most people would consider sick, depraved, disgusting, or sadistic, Jack finds downright humorous. Instead of being nervous when conflict escalates, Jack is excited. Death is a laughable matter. Because everything bad is considered funny, Jack has developed a wicked sense of humor. This humor sometimes works in reverse. What other people would consider funny, he considers stupid and boring, and usually inflicts his twisted wrath on the unsuspecting victim. He uses imitation to further his unhumorous portrayal of life’s ills. This fractured view leads Jack down a dark alley of betrayal at every turn. And so he aspires to use Bruce as a weapon against Julian, and seize the bloodied throne.

Robin
A young girl from a broken home, she longs for the love of a mother who is more at ease nurturing a bottle of whiskey. Robin was driven to the streets, where she found a paternal figure to fill the void - Julian. She admires his intelligence and determination, and she believes in his plan for a better future. Wanting to impress Julian, she does anything he asks, including getting close to other people. She is asked to keep an eye on Jack, which she did gladly, as Jack was a lot of fun to be around, although he frequently went a little too far for her taste. Eventually, Jack begins to scare her as he gets more and more wild. Robin’s also told to get close to Bruce, a nice change of pace from Jack. Bruce is quiet and secretive, but she finds that she enjoys his company. An unfortunate series of events may change this, as well as her destiny.
